A GRAND Opening

Saturday May 16, 2015 will go down as a very special day in my life, it marks the Grand Opening of De Boa Jiu Jitsu Academy in Surprise. I have dreamed of opening my own Jiu Jitsu School for a long time now and May 16th represents that being a reality.

The “Clean Slate Tournament” was packed, with over 60 kid Competitors! We had some great brackets that left guests extremely impressed. Kids Jiu Jitsu is amazing to watch, so much technique and heart. Thanks to Brandon, Keli, and Tyson for reffing and to all that helped with the event. This is the first tournament I have hosted that I gave someone else the stressful job of bracketing the competitors, Sean Downie and Will Walsh I can’t thank you enough and sorry for taking five years off your life expectancy. A special thanks to my parents who made the 11 hour drive from Colorado to be apart, and my inlaws for all their help!

The seminar in the afternoon had a full mat as well. A big thanks to Professor Jesus Jose and Professor Gerson Atoigue for sharing some great techniques and being apart of our special day!

OSS Physical Therapy set up a tent outside and gave out free massages all morning long! It is safe to say I have an Amazing Sponsor in them, I highly recommend them for anyone in the Greater Phoenix area for all your physical therapy needs. I put a little birdie in Dave’s ear that Surprise is calling their name for a second location, keep your fingers crossed!

Thanks to Mike Douglass and the Star Wars Crew, it was awesome to have you out! Mike is the man dealing with constant migraines for the past year and a half. Still willing to get in a suit and stand out in the sun, lucky to have you as a friend.

Yaya’s Tacos served up some delicious healthy tacos. I was curious to see what a gluten free, paleo friendly taco tasted like and they didn’t disappoint. They sold out of product!

Thanks to Square One Windows for hooking up the glass piece to put over the awesome front desk that my beautiful wife Leslie made.

NSTS Naveed Shan stopped by to see the new spot, I look forward to hosting a strength and condition for Jiu Jitsu Seminar with him this summer. Naveed was my strength coach and a huge part of my back rehab process. He has been featured in Jiu Jitsu Magazine and Jitz Magazine, I have been very fortunate to be able to pick his brain throughout the years.

Leslie and I couldn’t be more excited about the opening of De Boa Academy! Our core group of students that have been training out of the “Garage” for the last six months deserve the best, they are the “Garage Warriors.” We strive to be the best, and we are off to a great start. Thank you so much to everyone who help out, attended, or supported the Opening, we couldn’t do it without you.
