Big Phil

It’s always a great honor for me to reward a student for all their hard work with a new belt. Last night Phil Hinkel earned his Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I met Phil about five years ago when I was teaching at Siege MMA. At the time Phil trained for over a year before hanging up his belt to focus on Med School, he moved out west and I heard from him rarely. When we opened up De Boa in Surprise it was awesome to see an old student ready to give Jiu Jitsu another run. He has been back at it for over a year, his growth in his game has been huge.

I think people that are successful in their career sometimes have the most difficult time accepting the frustrations and ups and down of Jiu Jitsu. There is no easy button in Jiu Jitsu, there is only the “Don’t Quit” button. Proud of you Phil. OSS
