If you have a Facebook account or visit the grappling forums you have probably seen the story of a Black Belt competing at this years Pan Ams as a Brown Belt, it just so happened to be in my division.  I lost in the Semi-final match by an advantage, if I had won that match I would have squared off against the Black Belt and eventual Champion of my division.  The story came out when someone found a Facebook post that Sam Osman was awarded his Black Belt from Professor Scott Schilling on December 17, 2012.  That would have given him plenty of time to register as a Black Belt with the IBJJF.  The IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation) is the governing body over the largest Jiu Jitsu competitions of the year.  In the recent years the IBJJF have made it mandatory for Brown, Black and Juvenile competitors to sign up for a registration card to help prevent these things from happening, the process might still need some work.  I would like to hear the other side of the story.  To me not only does it go against the integrity of Jiu Jitsu but seems to be a lose lose situation for Sam.  If he were to lose as a Brown Belt that would look really bad if he wins at Brown Belt that looks really bad.  Please someone give me his story and if you hear what the IBJJF decides to about the situation please inform me of that is well.
