Purple Belt!

Congrats to Robert Maloney on receiving his purple belt!  Robert came to our school as a very tough 15 year old green belt with a nice little skill set and grown man strength.  As he turned 16 he was promoted to his blue belt and we released a beast on the world scene.  Robert captured back to back World and Pan Am Championships in the always tough blue belt teen division.  This past year Robert started competing in all the local tournaments as an adult to further challenge himself, winning several.  Thursday night it was Robert’s night, he was awarded his purple at the end of class.  It is always customary to have the person receiving the new belt to go through a gauntlet of rolls with the upper belts.  I attacked Robert for a six minute round, and at least three times he through me off of him using one finger and his superman strength.  The kid is ridiculous, I am excited to watch his game evolve as he continues to add tools in every position.  Watch out for Robert next weekend as he competes in his first purple belt tournament at the Southwest Classic.

Here is one of Robert’s matches in the adult division at the NABJJF Grand Canyon Open:
