Recognizing the Good

I don’t know about you, but for me it is really easy to recognize the challenging times in my life.  When the time are swirling and it seems you take a solid shot to the junk daily it is easy to have that when is it all going to end attitude.  For me it is harder to recognize and really appreciate all the good times.  When good times happen, my life just flows by. I don’t always take time to count my blessings.  Several things have happened the last few weeks that have made me look at life and really appreciate it.

Opening my gym has been a goal for me for the last eight or nine years and recently it happened.  De Boa Jiu Jitsu Academy not only opened but opened with a bang.  We are ahead of our goal on student count, and ahead of my high expectations for gym environment and quality of people among the student base.  We are blessed!

A few weeks back I had a student that does private lessons with me who lost a close friend to cancer.  When life is taken too short it is easy to look at your life and appreciate things.  Just yesterday I went to a fundraiser for a girl in the AZ Jiu Jitsu Community that was diagnosed with hodgkin’s lymphoma.  It was an amazing event and awesome to see the Jiu Jitsu Community come together again to provide support.  The girl, Julissa, had such a positive view on life that inspired me to cease the day.

I’m so grateful for all the good in my life, an amazing wife, wonderful family and friends, two crazy little dogs, and a Dream Jiu Jitsu Academy.  Thank you all for being apart of my life, much love.  I posted Carlos Gracie’s 12 Commandments of life last week on Facebook, definitely my goal to work harder on each of the twelve.

1 – To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
2 – Speak to every one of happiness, health and prosperity.
3 – Give all your friends the feeling that they are valuable.
4 – Always look at events from a positive point of view, and turn positivity into a reality in life.
5 – Think always in the best, work solely for the best and expect always the best.
6 – Always be as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
7 – Forget about past mistakes and concentrate your energies on the victories ahead.
8 – Always keep your fellow men joyful and have a pleasant attitude to all that address you.
9 – Spend all the time you need in perfecting yourself, but leave no time to criticise the others.
10 – Become too big to feel unrest, too noble to feel anger, too strong to feel fear and too happy to tumble in adversity.
11 – Always have a positive opinion about yourself and tell it to the world, not through words of vanity but through benevolence.
12 – Have the strong belief that the world is beside you if you keep true to what is best within you.
