So Much More Than A Belt

Today marks the first Anniversary of recieving my BJJ Black Belt along side fellow Lotus Club teammates Jesus Jose and Andrew Brittin. Since receiving my belt it has been another Jiu Jitsu filled year, I have realized more than ever how much more I have to learn. Jiu Jitsu has really slowed down for me this year and I am able to evaluate positions with much more understanding during a live roll. I remember shortly after receiving my Black Belt, Laercio Fernandes said to me, “Now the real learning begins, it is time to take every position and completely re-learn it.” When someone that is consistently on the podium at World’s gives you advice you take it. I have to be honest I didn’t completely grasp the statement but I embraced it. I have focused on learning each position better this year and will continue to thrive to be more technical, more knowledgeable, and be able to relay what I have learned better to my students.

A couple thank yous are owed in honor of this day. Thanks Ray Elbe for introducing me to Jiu Jitsu. Thanks Giva Santana for giving me the honor to represent you as one of your Black Belts. Lastley thanks to Jiu Jitsu. Jiu Jitsu owes me nothing but continues to give so much. I am truly living the Jiu Jitsu Lifestyle, My wife and I own Eminence Kimono (Jiu Jitsu uniforms), and I am opening my own school early in 2014 De Boa Jiu Jitsu Acedemy. Thank you to everyone who supports Eminence Kimono. De Boa Acedemy is the next huge growth in my Jiu Jitsu career. My first school in Jiu Jitsu school in Surprise Arizona has me so excited to not only continue my own Jiu Jitsu Journey but to help others start and achieve the goals of their own.
