“A Black Belt is a White Belt that never quit.”

This is a popular quote in the Jiu Jitsu Community, and couldn’t be more true.  One of the hardest things about the journey to Black Belt is enduring life as it comes at you, and making sure to find a place for Jiu Jitsu.  I hear students say all the time “I plan on coming in on Monday,” giving themselves an out to not come.  “Oh my plans changed I had to go to my cousin’s sisters’ nephews’ brothers’ mothers’ Birthday party.”  It is crazy to hears some of the things that trumped going into the gym.

So last night I walked outside then back inside about a dozen times trying to decide whether to watch Game 7 of the NBA Finals or go to the gym.  I am a huge basketball fan, I played growing up all the way to Junior College, and haven’t caught much of the Playoffs due to being at the gym.  I ended up sitting and watching a great game, but felt guilty the whole time. ” It wasn’t like I took the whole day off I went in the morning,” I keep justifying to myself.  Jiu Jitsu rewards outweigh the sacrifice and knowing that it is hard to stay away.  I woke up this morning to some good ol’ fashion smack talk on Facebook that might of not been directed at me, but I felt under the light.

“Why you were sitting on the couch or at the bar watching a sport with one ball we were training hard in sport it takes 2 balls to play”  Kent “Smokey” Stonebraker

“Great training tonight everyone. I love seeing the mats full and everyone training hard. The lessons I learn every night are the reason I love this sport. Oss”  Jesus Jose Siege MMA Jiu Jitsu Instructor

“Wrestling is what men do during boys basketball!”  Joe Gomez- Was not at practice just a hater. lol
